白馬寨鎳礦位于金平縣城西北,發(fā)現(xiàn)于1957年,1960年正式轉(zhuǎn)入勘探,1965年提交了儲量報告。該礦床是個中型鎳礦,保有鎳儲量5.32萬t,鎳品位1.23%。含礦巖體侵入于下奧陶統(tǒng)第三四組地層中。巖體呈向北西傾伏的扁柱體,傾伏延伸大于600m,寬190m,厚47m。巖體由輝長巖、輝石巖、橄欖巖組成,并依次由外向內(nèi)呈環(huán)帶狀分布。不同巖相之間呈突變接觸。礦床為一復合礦體,呈扁柱狀產(chǎn)于含礦巖體的中部(下圖),其體積約占整個巖體的1/3。形態(tài)、產(chǎn)狀與巖體一致。礦體由稀疏浸染狀、海綿晶鐵狀和致密塊狀三種礦石組成。白馬寨鎳礦礦石的特點是含銀、銦高,尤其在塊狀礦石內(nèi),并形成銀鎳黃鐵礦和銀金礦。礦床地質(zhì)特征表明,含礦巖漿,乃至礦漿沿同一構(gòu)造裂隙多次上侵形成的,貫入作用屬脈沖式活動,故稱其為巖漿深部熔離-脈沖式貫入礦床。
