赤鐵礦的集合體有各種形態(tài),形成一些礦物亞種,即:

(1)鏡鐵礦 為具金屬光澤的玫瑰花狀或片狀赤鐵礦的集合體。

(2)云母赤鐵礦 具金屬光澤的晶質(zhì)細(xì)鱗狀赤鐵礦。

(3)鮞狀或腎狀赤鐵礦 形態(tài)呈鮞狀或腎狀的赤鐵礦。
(3) oolitic hematite or reniform shape or kidney shaped oolitic hematite.
赤鐵礦是自然界中分布很廣的鐵礦物之一,可形成于各種地質(zhì)作用,但以熱液作用、沉積作用和區(qū)域變質(zhì)作用為主。在氧化帶里,赤鐵礦可由褐鐵礦或纖鐵礦、針鐵礦經(jīng)脫水作用形成。但也可以變成針鐵礦和水赤鐵礦等。在還原條件下,赤鐵礦可轉(zhuǎn)變?yōu)榇盆F礦,稱假象磁鐵礦。
